Concept Sketches

Different concepts were created to metaphorically visualize the topics of “star age” (selected as the final theme), “black holes colliding”

Selected Draft

A final concept was selected, with tree rings representing the bohr models of carbon and nitrogen, which help scientist understand the “age” of distant stars. The theme was complimented by an old stop-watch with the hands pointing at the 6 and 7 hours (the atomic numbers of carbon and nitrogen), on a “space fabric” sheet. The final draft used only the stopwatch and fabric to simplify the metaphor and design.

3D Modeling

The 3D models were created in Autodesk Maya. The stopwatch was created using photos of old stopwatches as reference, and the space fabric was created using Ncloth.
